Valentine`s Day is right around the corner, and if you plan early enough, you may be able to surprise your special someone with reservations to the most sought after steak restaurant in town.  Before you go taking a big bite out of that juicy steak, beware of the effects of indulging too much.  If you have ever suffered from a gout attack, that very thought may have stopped your fork mid-air.

Gout is a painful condition where there is buildup of too much uric acid in the body.  That acid is then crystalized in your joints.  These attacks are sudden, severe, and result in redness and tenderness in the joints.  The attack usually occurs in the big toe and can wake you from a dead sleep with the sensation that your toe is on fire.  They are so painful that even a bed sheet is too painful to be touching the toe.

So what does your Valentine`s day steak have to do with your gout flare up?  Your diet can be one of the main causes of a gout flare up.  Diets that regularly include red meats, seafood, alcohol, and cheese can predispose you to a gout attack.  If you are having an attack or for more information on how to change your diet to prevent a gout attack come see Dr. Wiles at Advanced Foot Care Centers today.  We can evaluate and diagnose your condition and start your treatment plan as soon as possible.
